Teacher Training At Björhöjdskolan
On Monday, March 10, we at Björkhöjdskolan (Borås, Sweden) held an activity with all the teachers in the upper secondary school. A total of 27 teachers had the opportunity to test some of our pedagogical sequences in practice.
We played games such as Liyla and the Shadow of War, Quandary,
Phone Story, and Freedom Bridge and spent an afternoon engaging in
discussions and exercises related to our selected games and
pedagogical sequences. Some teachers found it incredibly exciting and
are looking forward to see how students respond during the lessons
planned for June.

We had interesting conversations about how conflicts affect us, our students, and our society—especially given the conflicts we see today, such as those in Syria in just the past few days. One way to address these difficult topics can be through games like Liyla and the Shadow of War, followed by discussions and exercises. All in all, we are pleased with the afternoon and proud of our participation in this project.

Participating in activities that used a video game as an interdisciplinary tool was an incredibly engaging and sometimes frightening experience. As a teacher with a personal interest in video games, I had the opportunity to explore learning in an interactive and immersive way. Integrating the games I pilot-tested into subjects like English and social science allowed me to see how the students would learn complex concepts and vocabulary more practically.
